In October, Namibia President Hege Geingob attended Mashujaa Day celebrations at Bukhungu stadium after signing trade cooperation agreements with Kenya. President Hege also invited Uhuru to the country.

“It is befitting for us to recognize the sacrifices Kenya made as a country by contributing outstanding soldiers to help in safeguarding our stability,” President Geingob said

“On behalf of the people of Namibia, we have decided to award General (Rtd) Daniel Opande with the second highest honour in Namibia and we invite him to come to Namibia to receive it on behalf of all Kenyans,” the Namibian Head of State added.

In a tweet, State House confirmed Uhuru's trip to Namibia which comes at the time Kenya is facing serious drought and hunger in 12 counties including West Pokot, Turkana, Baringo and nine other in Nothern Kenya.

"President @UKenyatta arrives at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek to join the people of Namibia for celebrations to mark 29 years of their country's independence," read the tweet.

On Wednesday, Deputy President William Ruto denied media reports that several people have succumbed to hunger, instead, the DP termed the reports as 'fake news'.

Apparently, despite DP Ruto calling for the sacking of chiefs believed to have leaked the deaths to the media, Uhuru has remained mum over the hunger crisis.

Currently, Uhuru remains the most travelled President of Kenya after retired President Daniel Moi. In the past, he has defended his trips abroad, insisting that they are economically worthwhile.
