Mudavadi highlights the intrigues into the contest between Former President Mwai Kibaki and Raila.

The former Vice President notes that the opposition was left in deep shock when they made their way to the ECK-then electoral body- offices only to realize dubious results were streaming from Mt Kenya. He noted that the results from this region separated Raila from Kibaki.

He also notes that Raila’s supporters mounted pressure on him to take an oath of office at the same time but he had to intervene. Mudavadi recalls calling a team of lawyers to inform the supporters of the consequences that came with taking a mock oath.

“I brought in some prominent lawyers to persuade the radicals in ODM that this would be the wrong way to go. We were perched on a precipice. We were now on the verge of sinking the country into a civil bloodbath,” Mudavadi reveals.

In the book, he also said that a section of military and a judge, whose names were not identified was ready to swear in the opposition leader. Mudavadi said that he was against the idea.

Mudavadi later decided to part ways with Raila after the 2007 general elections. He decided to contest for the presidency in 2013 but he emerged third.

In 2017, he reunited with ODM leader for the second time as they sought to rise to power but they equally failed after President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto carried the day in a disputed election, whose results were later nullified.
