This is thanks to President Uhuru Kenyatta's truce with opposition boss Raila Odinga who doubles up as the region's political kingpin early last year.

Nyanza has so far bagged about Sh10 billion in development, most of these being on infrastructure, only a year after the ceasefire.

When he made his maiden tour of Kisumu and Siaya counties late last year, Uhuru promised a lot, with the region which has on most occasions found itself on the opposition side finally appearing to be catching up on development.

The projects include the ongoing Ahero interchange which is expected to gobble a sum of Sh699.5 million upon completion, it will link Kisumu to Kericho, Homa Bay and Kisii counties.

The rehabilitation of the Kisumu - Kakamega road has been allocated Sh4.5 billion. The project had stalled but has received a revival.

In Siaya county, the government has allocated Sh1.6 billion for construction of water dams in Ugunja and Sega constituencies, with another one coming up in Ukwala, Ugenya constituency.

Another water project worth Sh2.1 billion is coming up at the heart of the county under the funding of the African Development Bank, reports the Citizen Digital.

The government is at the same time clearing Lake Victoria of the hyacinth weed, with the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga mausoleum in Bondo, Siaya also expected to get a face lift on Uhuru's orders.

On top of these is the latest declaration that the government is planning to spend another Sh368 billion to extend the Standard Gauge Railway to Kisumu city.
