Speaking on Thursday during a media briefing at the CoG headquarters in Nairobi’s Westlands, Oparanya said that all plans are underway to appeal against the ruling.

This is after Kiambu Governor Ferdinard Waititu, who is facing graft charges in relation to the alleged loss of funds through Sh580 million tender was blocked from accessing office and his deputy James Nyoro took charge of the county following a directive from the court.

Samburu Governor Moses Kasaine Lenolkulal has also been locked out of office due to graft charges he is facing.

The county bosses feel less cushioned from corruption accusations.

They feel that a governor remains innocent until proven guilty by the court of law and hence he or she can still hold office amid the accusations.

The governors opined that the move amounts to denying the voters their right to be served when their leaders are asked not to access their office simply because they are suspected to be involved in graft.

“When a Governor is barred from discharging his/her mandate it simply means that someone is trying to deny counties services particularly ones that can only be performed by the Governor,” Oparanya said, as quoted by Capital FM.
