A two-week notice issued to occupants of the Taj shopping mall/ Air-gate center lapses on Thursday  (tomorrow) midnight.

The notice was issued by the multi-agency team leading the demolitions on riparian land in the city.

A spot check on Wednesday showed that tenants in the besieged building have vacated.

The building is now empty waiting to be brought down by bulldozers anytime past Thursday midnight.

“We followed the notice that was issued in regards to the demolition of this mall,” Millicent Mburu, who operated an M-Pesa shop in the building, said.

Mburu said that tenants have vowed out noting that though the notice was short.

Sammy Kirui, a barbershop owner who was housed in the Taj Mall building said that his business might not pick again.

“I lost all clients the moment the news went out that Taj Mall was going down,” he said.

Julius Wanjau, Inspectorate officer leading the demolition in the city says that Taj Mall will come down any time after Thursday midnight.

“The notice runs to Thursday 30 midnight and after that we shall be moving to bring the building down,” he said on Wednesday.

Two weeks ago, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko said that Taj Mall and Weston hotel associated with Deputy President William Ruto are buildings that have been set for demolition.

Governor Sonko says that no building or structure constructed on riparian land or road reserve will be spared.
