Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has said that the government is yet to receive formal communication on the number of Kenyans who have died from hunger.

Speaking during an interview with NTV when he visited Turkana County, Wamalwa said that the government cannot ascertain the population of those who have perished because of hunger.

“There are no confirmed deaths yet. What we have are just unverified reports,” Wamalwa said, as quoted by Citizen TV.

The CS, who appeared before the Director of Criminal Investigations to respond to the alleged loss of Sh.21 billion in dam’s scandal, said that he is aware of the drought situation but he could not confirm any deaths.

He insisted that there is enough food in the nation to cater for the entire population.

He said that the grain reserves in the country have enough food that can cater to all Kenyans without experiencing any form of shortage at the end of the day.

Wamalwa noted that there are four million bags of grains in the national silos.

The counties affected by the drought include West Pokot, Kilifi, Kajiado, Marsabit, Isiolo, Makueni, Mandera, Garissa, Baringo, Tana River and Kwale.
