It is now a compulsory requirement for police officers including new recruits to go through an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) course for six months, Interior and Coordination Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi has said.
Speaking while launching the ICT programme in Kilifi on Monday, Matiangi said that the new system will enhance that all reported cases are followed up accordingly.
“We have had cases where case files disappear day in day out at police headquarters. These are the nonsense scenarios we want to avoid. We must manage ourselves properly,” he said.
The CS added that through digitalization of police operations that will see police officers registered in the Information Management System (IMS), the police department is expected to improve in terms of transparency in security service delivery where cases of nepotism during recruitments and promotions are anticipated to be a thing of the past.
Dr. Matiangi said, “we want a transparent, professional and decent managing of police officers, we are tired of the old system of connections where people are promoted because they are close to the person in charge. We can't continue like this. We have to reform.”
Matiangi had been accompanied by Information and Communication Technology Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru who echoed Matiangi’s statement.
