Thirdway Alliance leader Ekuru Aukot's push has been questioned by a number of leaders, especially those allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Premier Raila Odinga.

Speaking on Monday morning, the commentator said the fight most likely has everything to do with the separate referendum push being championed by the two leaders.

He noted the opposition is, therefore, out of fear that Aukot's referendum might block the other one seeking to expand the executive arm of government, on grounds that the nation cannot be subjected to two referendums.

"The reason it’s being fought is because you can’t have this kind of referendum and have another one before the next election," he said.

He made the remarks on NTV's AM Live show.

At the same time, he noted that its not entirely within the powers of Aukot to realize his changes, saying that there exists a group of people who will make the final decision.

He observed that whether or not Aukot succeeds will be decided by the 'owners of Kenya'.

"Kenya ikona wenyewe (Kenya has its owners), and they will decide if this referendum will see the light of day," he added.
