But for Constable Joash Ombati of Force Number 234433, his mission of thwarting an attempted robbery had succeeded and he was ready to surrender the criminals to the nearest police station.

The two,  Peter Musili and Abdulaziz Kassim, had hoodwinked a man who had travelled all the way from Voi to buy cheap construction materials, only to throw him out of his own vehicle and vanish with over Sh700,000.

Touched by the incident since he was around the crime scene, Nyamira born officer looked to a taxi and decided to give them a chase.

At the the outskirts of town in Parklands, Ombati managed to overpower the robbers, recovered around Sh400,000 and the vehicle belonging to the victim.

At the scene, angry Kenyans were ready to lunch the two criminals but Ombati, perhaps guided by the law, pleaded with them to have the suspects surrendered to police station.

In Nyamira social media forums, hundreds of users wants the cop to be recognised during Mashujaa Day.

"Instead of parading ghosts on Saturday, these are the kind of heroes Governor John Nyagarama should reward," argued Philip Bosire, a politician.

Another user Erick Ogara added: "May the spirit touch the governor to reward this man even though he works in Nairobi."

Mr. Ombati has spoken about the courageous incident but with the publicity given to it, he could land a promotion at the Police Service.

The courageous cop hails from Magombo ward, Kitutu Masaba constituency.
