Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, David Bera said that his son had shown weird behaviour before. He noted that Brian was a student at Nairobi School where he scored a straight A in his KCSE exam before proceeding to JKUAT to pursue a course in Mechanical Engineering.

Mr Bera said he had not been in touch with his son recently, adding that he was shocked when he heard about the incident.

"Brian has always been a humble boy…he attended Nairobi School and was able to attain grade A then joined JKUAT. He, however, developed a character that is unlike him in his 3rd year…he isolated himself most of the time,” he said.

In response to whether he was aware of the social media posts he made before the incident, Mr Bera said that he is not on Facebook and he is not aware of the same.

He appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta to free his son to allow him to receive treatment as soon as possible, adding that he is partly to blame for not being close to his son as expected.

“I do not know the kind of generation we are in…I have never bothered about social media. I only use my phone to call and receive calls…It could be a weakness from my side," he said.
