The acronym 'GOAT' has been used differently especially when referring to people who have set or broken various world records or won several global championships.

It simply stands for Greatest Of All Time.

Kipchoge was recognized as GOAT after becoming the first human to run a 26.2 miles distance (42.2km) in 1 hour 59 minutes and 40 seconds.

The race in Vienna, Austria was against time where the athlete was trying to set a new record, which he did.

Unfortunately, his win will not be recognized as a world record by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) since various rules were broken during the race.

Kipchoge is currently the marathon world record holder. He broke the previous record on September 16, 2018, at the 2018 Berlin Marathon finishing the race at 2:01:39.

The marathoner who has been decorated as "the greatest marathoner of the modern era" has won the London Marathon 4 times, more than any other athlete.

Surprisingly, he has only lost in one marathon of the 13 he entered.

Some other sportsmen recognized as 'GOAT' include; Lionel Messi (Barcelona footballer), Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus footballer) and Usain Bolt (Jamaican athlete) among others.
