Baringo Senator Gideon Moi has weighed in on the heating Mau Forest debate, throwing his weight behind the forest dwellers and opposing the ongoing evictions.

The evictions are spearheaded by Narok County Commissioner George Natembea, in an ongoing operation to preserve the water catchment zone.

Speaking on the Narok end of the forest on Saturday, Moi termed the eviction as inhumane, opposing the operation which he said is torturous to the people.

"This is wrong. What is now going on is our people being mistreated which should not be the case," said the lawmaker.

This was as an echo of similar concerns raised by another section of Rift Valley Jubilee-allied leaders led by his Elgeyo Marakwet counterpart Kipchumba Murkomen.

Addressing evictees on the Kericho end of the forest on the same day, Murkomen called for President Uhuru Kenyatta's intervention in the widely politicised issue.

"I now exit this issue and call upon the President to address it. It is now upon him to pick sides and decide on whether to support the people or the ongoing evictions," said the Senate Majority boss.

His stand against the eviction and implication of opposition leader Raila Odinga in the operation has since worsened the issue, landing him in trouble with the former Premier's allies.
