Wambua wants the president to order for formation of an inquiry to probe the matter after the MPs rejected the report last week.

Speaking at Parliament buildings on Thursday, the Wiper senator said the contraband sugar matter might die out after MPs eject the report.

“The president has powers to order the formation of inquiry and should do so in the sugar saga to help Kenyans know the truth,” Wambua said.

Wambua said the sugar report has taken a political twist and that it will be difficult to know the truth.

“What Kenyans want to know is who was behind the importation and action taken against them,” Wambua said.

Reacting to the claims of MPs taking bribes, Wambua called for investigation.

He said those implicated in the bribery allegations should be arraigned and charged in court.

“Investigative agencies must move quickly and probe this matter for the interest of Kenyans,” he added.

A section of MPs is on the spot over allegations that they received bribes of between Sh10,000 and Sh30,000 last week to shoot down the sugar report.

Several MPs have been quoted saying that they witnessed their colleagues taking bribes.

Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi says investigations have been launched into the bribery allegations.
