The Ugunja Member of Parliament says that it's the stand of the party that the suggestions in the document must not be taken to the Parliament for approval, but to the people instead.

Speaking in his constituency on Saturday, he warned that the party will not allow any changes in the constitution if they are to be implemented through the Parliament.

"As much as we acknowledge the fact that the law provides that some recommendations must go through parliament, we want to make it clear that these reforms will only be made possible through a referendum and we won't accept anything short of that," he said as quoted by Nation.

The MP who spoke during the burial of slain Star correspondent Erick Oloo added that while the party supports most of the details of the document, its stand is clear on the route that should he taken in making them laws.

On Thursday, during the opening of ODM's new headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi, the parry leader Raila Odinga, a key figure in the BBI initiative, made similar remarks.

This was echoed by 25 MPs from across the political board, who insited that the people must own the document, as it will be 'killed' by allies of Deputy President William Ruto in parliament.

Ruto has personally been lukewarm on the issue, shifting stands on a daily basis, as his allies insist on a parliamentary route.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, who founded BBI with Raila, has on the other hand gone silent, after presiding over the launch of the document st the Bomas of Kenya on Wednesday.
