The ongoing crackdown of rogue matatus which is being led by Interior CS Fred Matiang'i has continued to evoke memories of the late Cabinet Minister John Michuki.

In fact, some have already started to draw parallels between Matiang'i and Michuki whose styles of doing things seem to resemble in one way or another.

And indeed, Matiang'i and Michuki have a couple of similarities as enumerated below.

1. No-nonsense

Some say that whatever Matiang'i lays his hands on simply has to change. It doesn't matter what it changes into and how the public reacts towards it.

TV digital migration, education and police reforms are just but a few of his living examples.

Michuki was no different. Whatever he embarked on, he did it with the entirety of a new broom that sweeps clean.

From the now revived Michuki rules to Mungiki crackdown in Central Kenya, Michuki simply left no stone unturned.

2. Tough talk, tough face

Whenever Matiang'i appears in the media to address any serious matter of public concern, you can never mistake him for someone who is reciting a love song lyrics.

Similarly, the tough face he wears is enough to tell you, 'please don't dare me!'

So was Michuki. Can you remember the face he was wearing when he made this statement, 'If you rattle a snake you must be prepared to be bitten it'?

3. Passionate to deliver results

When Matiang'i speaks on any matter that he feels is not going well, he does it in a manner that you can even feel it in his voice.

Michuki had similar charisma. A case in point is when as Internal Security Minister he was tasked with eliminating Mungiki sect members across Central Kenya in 2008 who had become a thorn in the feet of residents.

Despite a fierce backlash from a section of the region's leadership that he was also targeting innocent youths, he passionately did what he had to.

As we speak today, the Mungiki menace in the region is history.
