Speaking at an NTV show on Monday, Onyonka said before he broke ranks with the DP, he went to his house to advise him on how to do politics.

According to the Ford Kenya MP, he had advised Ruto to desist from attacking the former premier as it was inconsequential.

"I told him, 'stop talking about Raila. You are a good leader. You qualify. You are educated. Talk about your self. Raila is not your problem,' said Onyoka in a video shared by NTV on Facebook.

The legislator also noted that he had asked Ruto not to contradict President Uhuru Kenyatta's position on matters pertaining to the administration and governance of the country.

Another advice Onyoka claims he told the second in command is to honour Uhuru's directives, which entailed avoiding early campaigns.

"Lastly, I told him, 'If the president tells you to slow down, you slow down brother'," he said

The long-serving MP claimed that Ruto never heeded to his counsel, and that was why he had to ditch his camp.
