President Uhuru Kenyatta left for Addis Ababa in Ethiopia on Saturday to attend the 32nd Heads of State and Governments Summit of the African Union.
The head of state, who was accompanied by the First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, departed after Deputy William Ruto jetted into the country from London, the United Kingdom where he delivered a lecture at Chatham House.
Uhuru, who has shown commitment to achieving the Big Four Agenda, met various leaders during the summit as he seeks to strengthen the country’s ties with other nations.
Among the notable world leaders Uhuru met separately were Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and World Bank Vice President for African Hafez Ghanem.
According to a report from State House, the Head of State’s talks were centred on trade corporation and development matters as he seeks to leave behind a legacy when he completes his final term in office.
Some of the key issues discussed at the Summit included democratic elections and peaceful transitions, the ceasefire in African countries and silence on guns in the entire continent by 2020.
During the tour, First lady Margaret Kenyatta championed for the plastic bag.
She noted that the use of plastic in most countries is to blame for climate change. She urged all nations to embrace the idea of a plastic ban to avoid environmental degradation.
The First lady also informed leaders from different parts of African and entire world the meeting that Kenya recognizes the adverse effects of plastics on the environment.
