Though Owili was in the front-line in drumming up support for the Governor before ascending to the post of his deputy after their win in the election, he was not a registered voter of Kisumu county.

Instead, the Deputy County Head’s vote was registered in Kibra constituency in Nairobi County.

Owilli voted at the Medical Training School in Woodley/Kenyatta Golf Course Ward, according to information from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), as was seen by the Nation.

Owilli would, however, later rubbish the findings that he was not a registered voter of Kisumu as propaganda, terming it a social media fallacy.

“That is an IEBC issue. It has no basis in law. There are several things said in the social media that are untrue,” he was quoted by the Nation on Tuesday, July 4.

Nyong’o went ahead to beat his main challenger and former Governor Jackton Ranguma in the main race, clinching 252, 400 of the 539, 210 votes.

Ranguma was vying as an independent, after losing out on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket which went to Nyong’o.

Others in the race were Jubilee’s Atieno Otieno, Peter Charles Omollo of Amani National Congress among others.
