Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV's JKL show on Wednesday, Makau said that the writing is on the wall and the second in command cannot afford to ignore the same. Makau reminded Ruto that he cannot become a president without the support of Uhuru, adding that it is clear things are not right between the two of them.

"You do not become President from Deputy without the President’s support. It is clear that Mr. Kenyatta has lost all patience with his deputy & is interested in building his legacy. Mr Ruto should leave Jubilee to lead the opposition," he said.

The scholar also reiterated that there is no way Ruto can drive a wedge between the Odinga and Kenyatta families. He argued that the families have been together for decades and nothing seems to put them aloof.

"The Kenyatta’s & Odinga's have always controlled particular electorates. Ruto fans are hoping he will come out of nowhere and all of a sudden put asunder these two families and that is not going to happen," he added.
