The Member of County Assembly (MCA) is accused of forging some of his academic papers ahead of his election into office, attracting the attention of EACC.

The forgery was discovered after he allegedly claimed to have done his final secondary school examination at Murera Secondary School in 1997, a claim which has been disputed by the exams body.

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has denied the existence of index number 11235102/008, which it says does not exist and has also rejected his KCSE certificate.

EACC on Wednesday confirmed arresting the MCA, adding that he will be charged with crimes revolving around corruption, fraud and uttering a false document.

“The MCA will be charged with four counts of charges: providing false information to EACC, making a false document, uttering a false document and making a false declaration,” it said.

Before his election, Githongo was the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) chair for Gatundu South constituency.

He was also a pastor at the African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) at the time he came to power in the 2017 poll, with how he managed to allegedly chest his way into power remaining a puzzle.

The suspect is expected to be charged today.
