Speaking on Friday at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) during the official launch of the Countdown to the 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census Enumeration, the president said that all enumeration officials would be accompanied by uniformed police officers.

"The government has taken all necessary steps to ensure that the census will take place seamlessly and in a safe environment with minimal disruption to the ordinary activities of Kenyans. All enumerators will be accompanied by uniformed police officers, " the head of state assured.

The president's intervention comes amid fears in some areas that the exercise might be disrupted by disgruntled youth who were not picked during the recruitment exercise.

Kenyans across the country will be counted in the census that takes place after ten years and will take place from 26 to 31 August.

You will be counted wherever you will be and there will be no need for you to travel to your rural home to be counted.

The recruitment exercise was marred by allegations of favoritism and corruption as young people from various counties claimed that they had been unfairly left out.
