He won the Marathon in a record time of 2:01:39 broking the previous record that was set by another countryman Dennis Kimetto in 2014.

Kipchoge's time is a stunning 1 minute and 17 seconds better than the previous record. He said he now wants to set a new record of under 2:01:00.

The new world record holder will receive Sh5 million for winning the race. He will also get a staggering Sh7 million bonus for setting the world's best time.

This is after revelations that winners, both male and female, in the Berlin Marathon are given cash rewards of about 50,000 US dollars each (Sh5 million) and an additional prize of around 69,000 USD (Sh7 million) to the champion who sets the world’s best time.

Kipchoge, named as the best marathoner of all time is also set to receive even more cash prices from his sponsors among them Nike.

Last year Eliud Kipchoge was named Isuzu East Africa brand ambassador and after breaking the record, Isuzu Kenya revealed that they will reward him with a brand new 4×4 Isuzu D-max.

A ceremony to hand Kipchoge his reward will be held upon his return.
