A 60-year-old man has gone into hiding with a class 6 girl who he claims to have married on Tuesday at Nyagancha in Bomachoge Borabu, Kisii County.
Residents said the old man, Tom Magato, lured the minor with pension money he received after he retired from Kericho where he was working as a tea picker.
"Magato returned home 2 months ago from Kericho where he has been working as a tea picker. He was paid over Sh200,000 retirement money, lured the minor and escaped with her to an unknown destination" said a local James Babu.
A local chief Job Nyariki said the matter was reported by the minor's father, Abel Onduso.
"Onduso reported the matter to my office and we have launched a search to arrest the old man who divorced his wife several years ago. He will not be allowed to live with the minor who should be in school to make her future bright," he said.
He warned that any parent who will be found exchanging their young daughters with money will be dealt with according to the law.
