Speaking during an interview on the BBC television’s HARDtalk programme that aired Tuesday, the second in command said that his dream to ascend to power is still valid despite the rising political temperatures in the country.

He, however, noted that President Uhuru Kenyatta can either make or break him when that time comes.

Ruto, who is considered one of the front-runners in the race for the seat, also said that he is aware of many leaders objected to his leadership but insisted that they are not a threat to him.

“The person who matters to me is Mr Kenyatta. There are very many people who are opposed to my candidature,” he noted, as quoted by Daily Nation.

At one point, he alluded that he still has a long way to go before he can ascend to power. He also admitted that the land on which Weston Hotel in Nairobi sits was illegally acquired.

He, however, said that he is ready to comply with the National Lands Commission (NLC) in regard to the ownership of the land.

In reference to the referendum, Ruto said that he is against the creation of the post of the Prime Minister.

The DP is expected to lock horns with Former Vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka.
