The DP's weekend tours and the huge amounts that he normally carries along for fundraisers and offerings have been questioned by his critics, especially from the opposition.

But responding to the group from Nyeri County on Friday, the DP said that he has every reason to stand with the church, as a thank you token to God for bringing him this far.

He narrated how God has placed him at the position of the Deputy President, down from a chicken vendor, hence his readiness to always accept church invitations.

“I have come a long way from a chicken vendor to the Deputy President and that is all because of the Almighty God. That’s why I am always ready to attend and support the church any time I get an invitation,” he was quoted by the Standard.

The DP spoke at the Muthua-Ini AIPCA Church, where he was accompanied by area Governor Mutahi Kahiga and a host of lawmakers.

He also called for calm among politicians who have been questioning his leadership, apparently with an aim of spoiling his winning chances in the 2022 presidential elections.

Ruto urged them to relax and concentrate on service delivery, noting that Kenyans are intelligent and will elect leaders based on their development records.

“The public is busy watching the unfolding political scenario and keen to know who is working for them or not and who is delivering the promises made to Kenyans,” he added.

Though the DP largely avoided engaging in politics, his allies endorsed his 2022 presidential bid, terming him the best man to lead the nation.
