Last week, a charged Odinga insisted that the country must prepare for a referendum, saying that only fools cannot be ready for constitutional changes.

"We are going to change the law. There are certain things that we must change. Those opposing should either join the train or lose all together," Odinga said.

The Building Bridges Initiative has been collecting views from Kenyans, with a section of ODM and Jubilee leaders hinting a referendum.

But at Bomet on Saturday, Ruto accused Mr Odinga of disputing election victories, adding that the country is not ready for a parliamentary system of government.

"As a government, we will remain focused on delivering our pre-election promises and the Big Four Agenda on development. I can assure you that we will deliver on the promise,” said Dr Ruto.

"The other leaders should stop their obsession about election, creating extra leadership positions whenever they fail to win an election as we cannot afford to be talking about it year in, year out,” said Dr Ruto.

President Uhuru Kenyatta had before hinted a referendum, saying that the current system is the reason behind endless political competitions, a move that could throw Ruto off balance.

At London recently, Ruto said he will only support a referendum that who see decentralization of more resources to devolved systems of government.
