A man suspected of impersonating National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has reportedly been denied police bond despite making several pleas.

Mr Ombui Oire, a seasoned politician from North Mugirango, was nabbed by the police on Tuesday and hounded to Central Police Station where he was locked up awaiting court trial.

On his Facebook page, Duale claimed that Mr Oire has been running a pseudo Facebook account, masquerading as his personal assistant. In the process, he argued, Oire was soliciting Sh2,000 from unsuspecting Kenyans in exchange of scholarships.

"This is a well-orchestrated plan to con unsuspecting Kenyans hatched by James Ombui Oire from Nyamira County. He is deceiving Kenyans he is Hon. Duale’s Personal Assistant.James Ombui Oire runs a fake Facebook page that impersonates Hon Duale. 

"He cons Kenyans by asking them to send Kshs. 2,000 registration fees using the phone number 0720886964 and 0722134712Mr Oire has been apprehended by the DCI to answer charges of impersonating Hon Duale.Kindly note that all my accounts are verified," said Duale.

Mr Ombui was one of lead candidates for North Mugirango parliamentary seat but he bolted out under unclear circumstances in 2017. Later, he joined MCA race in which he lost to Fred Omayio in Magwagwa.

On Thursday, he accused the police of continued detention, adding that he had requested to be freed on bond to start up a court battle against Duale 

"Am still held up, locked up and denied bail. Hearing on Friday," he said, adding that police should consider his request.

In Nyamira, a number of youths have demanded for his release, with youth leader Beavon Magare accusing Mr Duale of witch-hunt. He said the charges against Mr Oire are politically instigated.
