On Monday, Owuor presided over a mega prayer rally in Nairobi which Mr Owino claimed that over one million people attended. Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris was also present.

And in his Facebook post, Owino accused MPs of trying to intimidate pastors through a bill which is expected to set new rules of engagement in the future.

"Kenya is a nation founded in the belief of God. It is through His Almighty Hand that we have been guided through difficult moments in the past to prosperity. Many thought that the country would be torn apart following the 2017 General Election but here we are today celebrating the Handshake that has brought Kenyans together," wrote Mr Owino.

He added: "This is why I was shocked when I heard some people suggesting the taxation of churches and vetting of religious leaders. What God has given, truly no man can take away. Not even Parliament.I wish to assure all worshippers that I will be on the front line in defending the Faith and ensuring the political class respects freedom of worship. We will not allow the Devil’s Hand to find its way into our society through politicians."

Before addressing the worshippers, Mr Owino knelt down before Owuor, who prayed for him. Owino is one of few leaders who have come out in defense of the controversial preacher, who is facing civil cases.
