Political analyst Ambrose Weda has said that Deputy President William Ruto remains a force to watch in the approaching 2022 general elections.

However, this comes at a time when a group of politicians drawn from the Central Kenya region have come out to oppose Ruto's presidential bid.

Speaking in Murang'a over the weekend, the former Starehe lawmaker Maina Kamanda-led team took issue with area leaders allied to Ruto and his plans.

Weda is however of the opinion that the continued attacks on the DP are actually good for his political health and twice as good for his bid as they give him the publicity he needs to clinch the seat.

"They think they are fighting him but are actually keeping him in the news. That is one of the things Ruto needs to win the seat. He is the beneficiary," said Weda.

Weda who doubles up as an advocate of the High Court was speaking on KBC English Service's The Big Conversation show on Wednesday morning.

He added that the leaders are also giving Ruto a reason to play the victim card while at the same time placing him ahead of his rivals as the most probable candidate to win.

"They are confirming the claim that Central Kenya never pays its political debts," said the political commentator.

"Should this continue, they will be giving him a reason to play the victim card in 2022 which might bring good results," he added.

Other Mt Kenya politicians who have attacked the DP include embattled former Jubilee Vice Chair and ex-Gatanga lawmaker David Murathe.

The anti-Ruto team has since been nicknamed 'Kitaeleweka'.
