On Monday, the governor will officially battle out with the detectives in court following two weeks of summons and arrests targeting possible suspects.

While the Migori county boss conceded daring and impregnating the Rongo University student, he however dismissed plotting for her murder.

"I have nothing, absolutely nothing to do with her death. The Investigators should do their job."

His lawyer Cliff Ombeta added: "He was ready to take care of the child and it's impossible that he could kill them."

Even though he claimed that he was in Nairobi during the fateful day, detectives have since traced his phone at Homa Bay, where the crime was committed.

The fact that his phone was on during the murder throws the governor into an awkward position.

Also, investigators have established that the governor was in constant communication with persons of interest, who have since been arrested for interrogation.

They include his PA Michael Oyamo, bodyguard Elvis Omondi and county clerk Caspal Obiero, whose vehicle was used for the abduction of the slain student and journalist Barack Oduor.

And worse still, the three, whose phones have been traced to the crime scene, failed to notify taxi driver Jackson Gombe , who drove the vehicle, that he was going to take part in the crime.

Mr. Gombe, the Standard says, spilled the beans about the whole saga and would face a lesser charge of conspiracy to commit murder.
