Latest moves from opposition leader Raila Odinga, especially his newfound diplomatic role in the government, have deeper meaning.

Odinga, in my opinion, is working in cohorts with President Uhuru Kenyatta, in a plan aimed at undermining Deputy President William Ruto.

Having seemingly taken over a job meant for either the ministry of Foreign Affairs or the President himself, the plan is most likely a scheme to provoke the DP into reacting.

Coming at a time when a section of Ruto's allies have expressed their distrust in Odinga, remaining suspicious of his closeness to Uhuru, this would be the easiest way to shove him aside.

The President is trying to free himself from Ruto who is hanging on him to back his 2022 presidential bid, and since he is keen on ditching the DP in a civilised way, he is trying to pick a fight with his side.

This is most likely a plan by the president to as well break his initial promise to support Ruto upon the lapse of his term and channel it to Odinga, who is likely to vie again, instead.

The well-calculated move will see Uhuru's legacy remain intact after the divorce, as Ruto, should he react, will be branded as an enemy of national cohesion and will shoulder the blame of breaking the union.

This way, Uhuru will be able to boldly stand before Kenyans and clear himself of the blame.

The President is basically pulling Raila closer and making him familiar with his support base to make their joint campaigns in 2022 smoother.

This is a regrouping of the political dynasties, with the plan being ensuring that the political families do not lose grip of the top post by taking Ruto, a self-proclaimed son of a peasant, out of the equation.
