Speaking in Kirinyaga on Friday, the PS called on the residents to reject the initiative, dismissing it as a waste of time.

He said that residents had far better things to engage in than the Punguza Mizigo debate.

"Reduce this, add this. All we want when someone wakes up in the morning is that they have the assurance of going to their farms. People are coming here to waste your time when you should be in the farm tending after your maize (Sijui punguza hii, ongeza hii. Sisi tunataka asubuhi mtu akiamka mtu anaenda kwa shamba yake. Watu wanakuja wanawaharibia wakati badala ya kuwa mnapalilia mahindi yenu, hiyo tukatae)," Karanja Kibicho said.

Kibicho's words will come as a blow to Dr Ekuru Aukot, the initiative's chief exponent who has been moving around the country in a bid to build support for the initiative.

The Kirinyaga County Assembly shot down the Bill in a manner that the Thirdway Alliance leader says was unconstitutional.

He has vowed to lodge a legal complaint in the manner in which the Bill was rejected in Kirinyaga.
