Constable Josephat Nuru, who was attached to Australian Embassy just near the hotel, was among the first officers to rush to the site to help fellow Kenyans.

During the visit in suburbs of Nairobi, Matiang'i express his sympathy and reportedly vowed to ensure the bereaved families get justice.

"We later went to condole with the family of Constable Josphat Nuru, who lost his life while evacuating fellow Kenyans," he wrote on Twitter after the trip.

Earlier, Matiang'i had visited GSU headquarters in Ruaraka where he hailed officers for swift response to the Tuesday afternoon attack in which 21 people died.

The Interior Cabinet Secretary said the government was thankful for swift action, adding that many people would have succumbed during the attack had it not been a quick response from the unit.

"I am extremely annoyed that some elements can dare cause chaos in a peaceful country. I am glad that you swiftly responded and that's not something we can take for granted," he reportedly said.

At least 700 people were evacuated from the building with the elite Recce Squad killing all terrorists who invaded the building.
