A report by the Commission of University Education (CUE) that some universities are offering unapproved courses has caused panic among students in the country.

According to CUE, some universities are offering courses that have not been approved by the commission.

The commission claims that some students are wasting their money and resources undertaking 133 courses it has termed as ‘useless’.

According to the report seen by the Standard, Garissa is among universities allegedly offering unapproved courses.

As a student wishing to enroll for studies at the Garissa University, here is what you need to do before agreeing to take any course.

1. Seek professional help 

When deciding to undertake a particular course it is advisable to evaluate yourself and seek advice on the marketability of the course.

Don’t rush to take any course for the sake of studying.

2. Accreditation 

As a student always enroll for a course that has been accredited by the Commission of University Education or any other relevant government agencies.

3. Cost

The cost of higher education is higher and a new student seeing to study a degree at Garissa University, cost should be one of the things to consider.

The government has however chipped through the Higher Education  Loans Board (HELB) to help poor students actualise academic dreams.

4. Period 

When undertaking a degree course at Garissa university it will be necessary to consider the period you will take to complete.

Most degree courses takes four years but there are some that go beyond four years.

It is not realistic to undertake a degree program in less than two years as the case is in some universities and colleges.
