Former boxer Conjestina Achieng has said that she is open to returning to boxing after many years of absence.
Conjestina made the announcement when she attended Fatuma Zarika's fight at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi on Saturday.
Zarika, a World Boxing Council (WBC) Super bantamweight champion saw off Catherine Phiri after a unanimous decision to retain the title.
"I'm glad to be back to reconnect with the boxing fraternity. I will be back in the ring hopefully in July and I intend to challenge for my former World Boxing Federation belt. I have a promoter and will start serious training very soon," she said.
The 41-year-old Kenyan international is ranked fifth in the world after she became the first African woman boxer to hold an international title.
Conjestina beat Fiona Tugume back in 2004 to claim the WIBF Middleweight title.
The former boxer holds 17 wins with eight knockouts wins but suffered a decision loss to the then WBC and WBA champion Natascha Ragosina.
Conjestina left the national team and was later taken ill after his father appealed to Kenyans for fundraising for her hospital bills.
However, she showed off her skills after the match as she jumped into the ring to congratulate Zarika.
