Annan's death took the continent by storm due to his short illness.

Because of the pivotal role he played while mediating peace talks in Nairobi a decade ago, Nairobians were full of good words for him.

Dedan Onyango wrote a short poem:

"Of Men and Peace

"I was young then, 2007/08

"But I witnessed your wisdom

"And I still celebrate your wisdom.

"Go well, builder of Peace

"Go well, a servant of peace.

"Go well Sir Anan!"

"At first I refused to accept the news, I thought that Twitter had killed him: Today I celebrate Kofi Annan. I refuse to mourn," wrote Felix Kochuka, an online language enthusiast and teacher.

"The man who brought peace and nusu-mkate regime in Kenya. Very humble. Rip koffi," wrote Jacque Juan Mata.

Francia Wanyonyi wrote:

"Finally Koffi Annan breathes his last after saving Kenya from falling into genocide. Which, what or where can we change the name and call Koffi Annan in remembrance of what he did to Kenya? RIP Koffi."
