The car, a black Toyota Fielder saloon car which operates as a taxi in Migori County was nabbed on Sunday, and its driver Jackson Gombe arrested and arraigned in Oyugis, Homabay County, on Tuesday.

However, it emerges that before it was nabbed, officers on patrol spotted an unnamed top county official driving the car.

The official is believed to have most probably unknowingly hired it, reports the Standard.

It's not, however, clear who the top county chief was and whether he has also been summoned to help with the ongoing probe to bring the culprits to book.

Police believe that the car which is currently packed at the Oyugis Police Station is the one that picked Sharon and Nation reporter Barrack Oduor who, however, escaped by jumping off the speeding car.

Sharon was days later found dead in Kodera Forest in Homabay County, with coroner's test indicating that she was indeed murdered by stabbings and strangulation.

Appearing before Senior Magistrate Joy Wesonga, the court ruled that Gombe is held in police custody for 10 more days as detectives conclude on their investigations.

Sharon and Barack were abducted outside Graca Hotel in Rongo Town, after which Barack claims he jumped out near Nyangweso Market along the Homabay Kisumu Road.

The second-year Medical Records student was heavily expectant at the time of the incident.
