On August, 6 Members of Parliament asked Macharia to present himself before the house to explain the circumstances behind the directive to transport cargo on SGR as opposed to using public trucks.

The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) issued a directive to the CS to express himself before the committee.

"All imported cargo for delivery to Nairobi and hinterland shall be conveyed by SGR and cleared at the Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Nairobi while all cargo intended for Mombasa and its environs shall be cleared at the port of Mombasa," he said.

In the recent past, truck owners have lamented over the collapse of businesses in the region following the directive.

The leaders from the region have also asked the National government to reconsider the decision to order for the transportation of cargo to different parts of the nation.

The establishment of dry ports in different parts of the nation including Naivasha has also prompted the push.
