Kisumu County Deputy Governor Dr Ochieng' Owili chaired stakeholders meeting on Sexual and Reproductive Health at Acacia Premier Hotel in Kisumu on Wednesday.
This comes three months after President Uhuru Kenyatta officially launched the Universal Healthcare Coverage at Mamboleo Showground in the county on 13th December 2018.
Dr Owili said that adolescent sexual reproductive health has been gaining prominence in the global health agenda.
He noted that it was vital to start the programme because adolescent girls and young women are vulnerable to HIV infections.
"Adolescent girls and young women are especially vulnerable. They are known to account for more than 50% of all HIV infections in Kenya and Kisumu county alone". Dr.Owili said.
The meeting was attended by Africa Advocacy Foundation Programme Director Dr Dennis Onyango, Health CEC Dr Rosemary Obara, County Health Director Dr Dickens Onyango among other stakeholders.
The county government of Kisumu the previous year opened eight adolescent health centres in the sub-counties with an effort to boost primary health service.
