As a result of this phenomenon, there calls a need to keep on changing the programming to suit the varying needs of the listeners who are also dynamic in nature.

That means various radio programmes come and go as fast as they came and their time slots taken by others.

However, on Kikuyu radio for instance, there are four popular programmes that have withstood the test of time and continue to be relevant despite their lengthy stay on air. We enumerate them below.

1. Kameme Book Club

It is one of the oldest programmes on Gikuyu radio. It is as old as Kameme FM itself where it airs on every Thursday evening. Book Club is hosted by veteran radio presenter Evans Wanyoike alongside Iribe Mwangi who lectures Literature at the University of Nairobi.

The popular programme involves reading various selected English and Kiswahili novels, short stories and plays while interpreting the same for the Kikuyu audience. After reading the entire book, the author is invited to the studio to give a deeper insight into what motivated them to compile their respective literally works.

2. 'Mugambo Wa Murimi' (Voice of the Farmer)

The programme started when Inooro FM launched way back in the year 2003. The programme educates Gikuyu farmers on the best farming techniques to be able to yield as much as possible from their agricultural activities.

The award-winning programme is produced by John Muchwe and airs every weekday morning on Inooro FM. It is also rebroadcast in the evening after the 7pm news.

3. Kameme Country

This is a country music show that airs on Kameme FM every Sunday evening from 9pm. The show which has had several presenters started to air on the same time slot after Kameme FM launched in the year 2000.

Country music is popular among Kikuyu 'cowboys' and 'cowgirls' and could explain why it has managed to stay on the air for such a long time.

4. 'Hutia Mundu'

The adult talk show airs on Inooro FM every Saturday evening from 10pm and has been there for over 10 years with controversial Pastor JJ Gitahi as the primary host. The show, however, launched with Pastor Paul Kuria as the main host.

Adult lnooro FM listeners stay up late into the night not to miss anything that the popular show has got to offer.
