The commission claims that Garissa University is offering 10 unapproved courses.

According to CUE, Garissa University is also offering courses the commission has termed as ‘useless’.

The Commission claims 133 ‘useless’ courses are being offered by the public and private universities in the country.

The commission Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mwenda Ntarangwi in an interview with the Standard, advised students to check if the courses they are planning to undertake are approved.

According to CUE, here are some of the unapproved courses being offered at the Garissa University.

1.Bachelor of Arts (Geography)

2. Community Development

3. Applied Statistics with computing

4.  Actuarial Science

5. Political Science

6. Natural Resource Management

7. Environmental Studies

8. Commerce

A section of Vice-Chancellors in some of the universities that has been linked to allegations of offering unapproved courses have dismissed the report terming it misleading.

The VCs argue that they have been consulting CUE before enrolling students for new courses.

The revelation by  the commission has caused anxiety among university students undertaking the said 'useless and unapproved' courses.

Garissa University is yet to issue a statement on the allegations.

Efforts to get the university's comment on the matter was futile as messages to its social media platforms went answered.
