The Kenya National men Football team, Harambee Stars has been nominated for the 2018 Confederations of Africa Football (CAF) team of the Year Award.

For Harambee Stars to win the award, the team will have to beat five other nominees in the name of Guinea Bissau, Madagascar, Mauritania, East African Counterparts Uganda and Zimbabwe.

“The awards gala to honor footballers and officials who distinguished themselves during the year under review will be held on Tuesday, 8 January 2019 in Dakar, Senegal,” reads a report on CAF’s website.

Harambee Stars was nominated by virtue of being on the brink of qualifying for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be staged in Cameroon.

Coach Sebastien Migne's men are currently leading the qualification race in group F that also includes Ghana, Ethiopia and Sierra Leone. Stars have 7 points, with Ghana coming in second with six points.

CAF says that 34 players (men) and 15 players (women), have been nominated for the Player of the Year Award among them Ugandan captain Dennis Onyango and last year's winner Egyptian and Liverpool ace Mohammed Salah.

The winners will be decided by a CAF Technical and Development Committee, media experts, legends, coaches of the quarter-finalists of the CAF Champions League Confederation Cup teams, as well as coaches and captains of the national teams.

CAF has 54 member associations.
