John Edgar, 31, says that the wife with whom they moved in together after marriage started the vice eight years ago, when she was pregnant with their only daughter.

However, he says, he rubbished it as a simple mood swing, but it would grow with time, getting to a point where a simple disagreement would see him beaten and things thrown at him.

Consequently, out of stress, he says, he has attempted suicide thrice and though he adds that he has lost interest in the marriage, he sticks around for the sake of his daughter.

"I have attempted suicide thrice and visited many counsellors to find a solution,” he told the Sunday Standard, adding that his many trips to counsellors have also yielded no fruits.

In 2016, the woman reportedly went as far as insulting his clients through his work accounts, rendering him jobless as a result.

"When I tried to peruse through the account, I was shocked at the kind of unprintable words she used against my clients. That is how I lost my job," he added.

He says that he now keeps it to himself and has never reported the instance to the police, and has also stopped sharing it with his friends who laugh at him and mock him.

He adds that despite being a man, he has never thought of hitting back, after seeing the effects of domestic violence all through his upbringing.

“I saw how my mother treated my father, vowed to never beat my wife. I wanted to give my wife the best, and hope that a man will also give my daughter the best,” he added.
