The star, who also plays in the Kenya Premier League is suspected of having used a banned substance whose residue was found in his system, according to the results.

The same was on Tuesday confirmed by Anti Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) chief executive officer Japhter Rugut who, however, withheld the name of the sportsman.

He said that the information regarding the identity of the player cannot be released until investigations are complete, adding that he might be banned from playing henceforth.

“We have received a number of positive results from World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada), including one from a footballer. That information is still very fresh and we cannot go public because we are still conducting our own investigations," he was quoted by the Nation.

Rugit added that ADAK is currently trying to establish whether the substance intake was intentional or otherwise.

“We are at the initial review stage, and we are trying to establish whether the player administered the substance unintentionally or accidentally.

Those two scenarios carry different penalties which is why it will be premature to name the player at this stage. We do not want to ruin anybody’s career," he added.

If it was done unintentionally, then the player might be facing a two year ban while he can be banned for up to four years if he intentionally took the unauthorized substance.
