Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been asked to appear before the Senate Standing Committee on Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations.

The governor is scheduled to appear before the committee on Wednesday to explain why he is yet to pick a Deputy Governor. months after Polycarp Igathe resigned.

Igathe presented his resignation letter citing irreconcilable differences with the governor months after he was elected into power.

Sonko has been put to task to outline why he has been operating without a Deputy. 

He is also expected to shed more light why he has not taken any action after some of the County Executive Committee Members quit from their position citing various reasons.

The county government of Nairobi has witnessed a number of resignation after Sonko took over from Dr Evans Kidero. 

Besides the deputy governor, Sonko has not appointed a county Education Minister following the resignation of Janet Muthoni-Ouko who quit in January this year.

The invitation of the county boss comes after the incumbent Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja asked the Senate to question him over the same. 

The Supreme Court had ordered the governor to nominate new persons to take over the respective offices. 

“Explain why the County Governor had failed to adhere to the ruling of the Supreme Court which advised that governors should nominate fresh nominees within fourteen days,” said Sakaja in a statement, as quoted by Citizen.
