The party has lately been witnessing rows as officials battle over various seats in party branches, the most sought after seat being the Chairmanship.

But the party National Chairman John Mbadi is now warning of consequences for people purporting to be chairs, noting that only recognized officials will be safe.

He said that the situation is spreading to other parts of the nation where the party has a huge following, bringing out a bad image.

“ODM is the only political party in Nyanza with two or more people claiming to be chairmen for one branch.

"Similar rivalry is also experienced in other positions at the branch level but this gives us a very bad picture,” he was quoted by the Standard.

The Suba South lawmaker was speaking when he attended fundraisers at Sare and Omboga Seventh Day adventist churches in Karachuonyo constituency, on Saturday.

In a move aimed at restoring sanity in the bloc, he directed all branch officials to give report on fake officials for legal punitive measures.

“I have instructed all the party branch chairmen to report the masqueraders to the headquarters for punitive legal measures. We must have order in the party,” he added.

He said that a crackdown will be launched to tame the situation, adding that as much as the quack officials have a good intention for the party, such character will not be condoned.

"I am not saying the party is rejecting its supporters. Anybody who masquerades as the party official should not blame us if they find themselves in a hot soup,” he directed.
