Uhuru admits stolen money forced him to appoint Moody Awori

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday lashed out at critics following his decision to appoint 91-year-old Moody Awori to a state office.

Uhuru admitted that he had no option but appoint Uncle Moody to the youth, arts and culture board that comprises of six other members from various ministries in his cabinet.

The president remarked that the massive graft in government had left him with limited options, such that he could not mind appointing the former vice-president to be a board member.

"I  have been criticized about appointing a 91 year old for arts and culture, if you were in my shoes what would you do when you see money being stolen left right and center?" posed President Kenyatta.

He went on to note that whenever he appoints youthful servants, they engaged in theft and promoted graft in his administration and overall service delivery.

"You appoint these young people and money is stolen! Wacha mzee akae hapo awachungie pesa (Let the old-man take the job and safeguard your money) appealed the president.

On Tuesday, National Treasury CS Henry Rotich Mr. Awori as part of the board tasked with preparing and submitting quarterly reports as well as developing infrastructure and facilitating Team Kenya for their national assignment among other duties.
