While approaching the Machakos bus park as a motorist,  you will find a group of three or four men masquerading as mechanics. They will signal you to stop.

As motorists say mechanics are always right, you will find yourself stopping.

The culprits will then tell you that your car has a mechanical problem.

They will tell you that your front tyre has a play meaning it's loose and since you can't spot it if the car isn't in motion, you will be convinced.

Seeing the confusion exhibited in your face, they will convince you the wheel needs to be removed and even recommend a replacement.

After the exercise, they will tell you that your bushes and tyrosine in the wheel are worn out despite your pleas that they are just days old.

They will lead you to a spare shop warning you how risky it's driving a car in such a condition.

In the spare shop, you will be charged thrice the actual amount mostly to people unaware about prices of car spares.

Back to your car without you noticing, they will return your old spare parts in the car after you part with Sh.3,000 as payment for labor.

Unaware to you the new spare parts will be returned to the shop as the 'mechanics' share your money amongst themselves.

Last week, the newly appointed county commissioner Sam Ojwang' said the claims and complaints about the mechanics conning people have reached his office.

He warned that the con men's days were numbered.
