Kericho County leaders under stewardship of Governor Paul Chepkwony and Senator Cheruiyot had visited the DP for development talks.

In a photo making rounds on social media, Senator Cheruiyot is seen pocketing one of his hands as he extends the other one to a smiling DP Ruto.

Traditionally, young people were required to show utmost respect while greetings elders, including placing one hand on top of the other one, a scenario that did not manifest between the duo. DP Ruto is older than Cheruiyot.

Ainabkoi MP William Chepkut, a former personal assistant to Nicholas Biwott, was quick to blast Cheruiyot, claiming that he lacked manners and ethics.

"Vijana Wa Siku hizi hawana heshima," he wrote. This loosely translates to: "Modern youths lack ethics and self respect."

DP Ruto said that the meeting focused on development needs within the counties, adding that leadership should desist from dragging political differences to development agenda.

"To address the development needs of the counties, leaders must work together irrespective of their political affiliation and involve the public in decision making. The collective will of the people in identifying, prioritising and furthering key grassroots projects is critical to achieving meaningful and sustainable development.

"Held a meeting with leaders from Kericho County led by Governor Paul Chepkwony, Karen office, Nairobi County," said Dr Ruto after the meeting.

Senator Cheruiyot was a student leader at Moi University in 2012. He was elected to the Senate in 2014 after the appointment of Charles Keter to the cabinet by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
