Ranguma announced his decision to support Nyong’o during a burial ceremony of the late Peninah Ochieng in Koru, Kisumu County on Saturday.

The late Ochieng is the wife to Nyakach Sub County administrator Vincent Orayo.

“Elections are now behind us and it is now time for us leaders to come together for the sake of the great people of Kisumu County,” said Ranguma.

Ranguma served as first Kisumu County governor between 2013 and 2017, while Nyong’o was the first Senator during the same period.

Also in attendance was Kisumu County Deputy Governor Dr. Mathews Owili, who reiterated on the commitment of the county government of Kisumu to ensure that revitalization of the sugar industries is achieved.

Ranguma defended the gubernatorial seat last August as an independent candidate, but lost to Nyong’o.

He moved to the Kisumu High Court to challenge Nyong’o's win, but the case was dismissed.

He then moved to the Court of appeal, but the appellate court upheld the High Court’s decision of dismissing his appeal.
